Second Central Asia China Studies Forum. China and Central Asia at the Crossroads of Heritage and Future

The Institute for Advanced International Studies (IAIS) at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, in partnership with the World Sinology Center (PRC) and the Belt and Road Research Center (Kazakhstan), will host the Second Central Asia China Studies Forum.

The Forum will serve as a platform for scholars, researchers, and policy experts from Central Asia and China to discuss the development of China studies in the region and explore new avenues for academic, cultural, and analytical cooperation. Building on the dialogue launched during the First Central Asia China Studies Forum held in Almaty in 2025, the event aims to strengthen regional expert networks and promote a deeper understanding of contemporary China and its engagement with Central Asia.

The discussions will focus on three key themes. The first session will examine the origins and development of China studies in Central Asia, highlighting national schools of scholarship, institutional foundations, and future prospects for regional cooperation among China scholars. The second session will address the role of China studies in cultural and humanitarian cooperation, including education, language training, translation, academic exchanges, and people-to-people connectivity. The third session will explore China’s 15th Five-Year Plan and its implications for Central Asia, with particular attention to economic development, infrastructure connectivity, technological transformation, and regional cooperation.

The Forum will bring together leading China scholars, representatives of universities, research institutions, think tanks, and government agencies from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and China.
