On 18 December 2025 the Institute for Advanced International Studies (IAIS) at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED), in partnership with the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame (United States), will hold a joint workshop on Generating an Economic Vision for Afghanistan at UWED in Tashkent.

Building on a joint IAIS–Kroc Institute webinar held in November 2024, the workshop is designed to advance expert discussions on Afghanistan’s economic outlook and regional stability, with particular attention to the role of Central Asia in shaping a long-term economic vision.

The eevnt will convene strategic thinkers, traders, bankers, and environmental specialists from Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and other Central Asian states to draft a comprehensive economic vision and strategy, including practical pathways for strengthening Afghanistan–Central Asia cooperation and creating mutually beneficial economic opportunities. The resulting document is intended to serve as a foundation for broader expert engagement on the country’s future and regional stability, and complements the Kroc Institute-coordinated Afghanistan Dialogue and Visioning Process (DVP).

Sessions will focus on (I) developing financial and trade relations between Central Asia and Afghanistan and (II) energy cooperation and environmental issues. The agenda also includes moderated working groups (Environment, Finance, Trade), a framework-drafting segment, and a concluding session.
