Final Report Conference on “Energy Security of Uzbekistan: Sustainability, Transformation and International Cooperation”

The Institute for Advanced International Studies at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy will host the final report conference on the research project on “Energy Security of Uzbekistan: Sustainability, Transformation and International Cooperation” supported by the Nippon Foundation. The event will serve as the official launch of the project monograph, and a platform for discussing the next phase of work in this area.

The conference will be devoted to the transformation of Uzbekistan’s energy sector and its implications for sustainable development, economic resilience, and regional cooperation. Bringing together government officials, international partners, academic researchers, and energy policy experts, the event will focus on the project’s main findings, policy recommendations, and future directions for strengthening Uzbekistan’s energy security through diversification of energy sources, institutional reforms, and international cooperation.

The substantive discussions will be organised around three thematic panels. The first panel will address the diversification, sustainability, and transformation of Uzbekistan’s energy sector, including regulatory reform, renewable energy, nuclear governance, and energy security under external shocks. The second panel will examine wider regional interdependence and cross-border resilience, with attention to Central Asian energy trends, electricity market integration, Afghanistan’s role, and the broader neighbourhood’s impact on fuel and gas security. The third panel will focus on future directions in the water-energy nexus and climate resilience, including transboundary resource management, climate-related risks, and their geopolitical implications.

The conference is expected to make a meaningful contribution to evidence-based policy discussion on Uzbekistan’s energy future by presenting the project’s final report, monograph, and policy recommendations, while also encouraging deeper expert dialogue on regional cooperation and long-term energy transition strategies.
