We warmly invite you to our Frontier Talks workshop on Field Research Methodologies, led by Frank Maracchione, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Kent’s School of Economics, Politics and International Relations. His current work examines the political economy of South-South cooperation and the agency of micro-actors in global development.
In this practical session, he will guide participants through every stage of fieldwork design and execution. You will learn how to refine research questions to reflect on-the-ground realities; address ethics and obtain informed consent; select and apply qualitative techniques such as semi-structured interviews and focus groups; integrate participant observation; and ensure data validity and reliability when resources are limited.
Through case studies drawn from his work in Central Asia, he will demonstrate adaptive strategies for navigating cultural nuances and logistical challenges. Dedicated breakout discussions will give you the opportunity to present your own field plans, receive feedback, and exchange insights with peers. Everyone interested in strengthening their field-research skills is warmly encouraged to attend.
