Meeting with Kim Kyungmin, Researcher at the Center for Emerging Economy Studies, Republic of Korea

On September 30, the Institute for Advanced International Studies (IAIS) at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy hosted a meeting with Kim Kyungmin, researcher at the Center for Emerging Economy Studies (CEES) of the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP), Department of Russia and Eurasia. On the IAIS side, the meeting was attended by Odil Gafarov, Deputy Director of IAIS, Abbos Bobokhonov, Head of the Asia-Pacific Research Center, and Madina Alimova, Senior Research Fellow of the Center.

 

The discussion focused on key aspects of Uzbekistan’s position within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), including issues of regional security, the organization’s enlargement, its evolving economic agenda, and the implications of these processes for the international and Eurasian architecture.

 

Particular attention was given to the activities of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS), the importance of the principles of equality and consensus in ensuring effective cooperation among member states, as well as the prospects for the participation of new members in developing transport, logistics, and economic connectivity in Central Asia.

 

In conclusion, the parties discussed opportunities for further institutional cooperation between IAIS and Korean research centers, including joint projects, expert dialogues, and academic exchanges.
