Frontier Talks. The Japanese Government’s Current Foreign Policy and Recent Trends

We are delighted to invite you to the next session of our Frontier Talks series. On Thursday, 12 June, Mekhriniso Abdurasulova, Head of the Japan Studies Program at IAIS, will deliver a seminar entitled on The Japanese Government’s Current Foreign Policy and Recent Trends.

Drawing on more than a decade of experience in East Asian policy analysis, Ms Abdurasulova will offer a comprehensive overview of Tokyo’s strategic evolution amid shifting regional security environments and economic imperatives. Her remarks will encompass the latest directives from Japan’s annual White Paper, Tokyo’s deepening engagement in multilateral frameworks such as the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (the Quad) and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), and recent developments in bilateral relations with the United States, the People’s Republic of China, and Southeast Asian partners.

Crucially, she will also examine Japan’s expanding partnership with Central Asian countries — highlighting the political and economic dimensions of Japan–Uzbekistan cooperation, from infrastructure investment and development assistance to cultural exchanges.

Ms Abdurasulova is placed to guide participants through the nuances of Japan’s foreign-policy landscape. A dedicated Q&A session will follow her presentation, offering ample opportunity for scholars, practitioners and members of the diplomatic corps to engage directly with her insights.
