Frontier Talks. Publishing in High-Impact Academic Journals: Research Design, Academic Writing and Publication Strategy

The Institute for Advanced International Studies is pleased to announce an upcoming seminar under its Frontier Talks series, featuring Dr Allison D. Evans. Entitled “Publishing in High-Impact Academic Journals: Research Design, Academic Writing and Publication Strategy”, the seminar will provide researchers, faculty members, and students with valuable insights into the academic publishing process and the essential requirements for producing research suitable for publication in internationally recognised scholarly journals.

The seminar will explore the key stages of developing a publishable academic article, from formulating compelling research questions and establishing a rigorous methodological framework to constructing a coherent argument and presenting original contributions to scholarly debates. Particular attention will be devoted to the principles of effective academic writing, including the organisation of research papers, engagement with existing literature, and the articulation of theoretical and empirical contributions.

Drawing on the broader practices and expectations of international academic publishing, the discussion will also address strategies for identifying suitable journals, understanding editorial priorities, navigating peer review, and responding constructively to reviewers’ comments. Participants will have an opportunity to gain practical insights into common challenges encountered during manuscript preparation and submission, as well as approaches to strengthening the quality, clarity, and international relevance of their research.

The seminar forms part of IAIS’s continued commitment to fostering academic excellence, strengthening research capacities, and promoting knowledge exchange with international scholars. Through the Frontier Talks initiative, the Institute seeks to equip emerging and established researchers with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to engage more effectively with the global academic community and enhance the international visibility of their scholarly work.
