On 30 June, Hamza Boltaev, Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Afghanistan and South Asian Studies at IAIS, participated in the roundtable discussion “Pak–Afghan Relations: What Next? Towards Pragmatic Policy Pathways in a Shifting Regional Order”, held in Islamabad by the Center for Research and Security Studies.

The high-level policy dialogue brought together regional experts and practitioners to examine the historical evolution of Pakistan–Afghanistan relations, post-2021 security challenges, cross-border militancy, trade, mobility and regional connectivity. Participants also discussed the role of regional and international actors in reducing tensions and supporting more sustainable forms of bilateral engagement.

During the discussion, Hamza Boltaev contributed to the exchange of views on contemporary regional dynamics and possible pragmatic approaches to stabilising relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Particular attention was paid to maintaining dialogue, strengthening regional coordination and preserving economic cooperation despite continuing political and security disagreements.
