On January 25–29, with the assistance of the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the United Kingdom, a working visit of an Uzbek delegation of researchers to London was organized. The delegation included the Deputy Advisor to the President of Uzbekistan on Foreign Policy, Director of the International Institute for Central Asia (IICA), Javlon Vakhabov, First Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, Director of the Institute for Advanced International Studies Akram Umarov, as well as several IICA researchers.
During the visit, talks were held with members of the UK All-Party Parliamentary Group on Central Asia, representatives of the Foreign Office, and leading British think tanks, such as the International Institute for Strategic Studies, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, the Overseas Development Institute, and others. The parties exchanged views on the current state and prospects of Uzbek-British cooperation. The essence and significance of the format of the Consultative Meetings of the Heads of State of Central Asia were discussed.
The meeting focused on the situation in the region and major infrastructure and transport and logistics projects currently being implemented. It was noted that as a result of Uzbekistan's open, pragmatic, and multi-vector foreign policy, Central Asia has become a space for cooperation based on the principles of good neighborliness, sustainable development, and mutual respect for the interests of the states in the region.
Overall, the visit confirmed the continued mutual interest in deepening expert and political dialogue between Uzbekistan and the UK. The meetings demonstrated the relevance of the interregional cooperation agenda and laid the foundation for further development of practical cooperation with leading British analytical and political circles.
